The Sole of a Shoe exhibition (Wynick Tuck, 2011) is a continuation of my long-standing interest in art-historical legacy. Previously, these investigations focused on artists from the past. This exhibition focuses on the immediate legacy of painting as represented by my father and grandfather.
The exhibition is divided into 3 rooms representing the genres represented in this legacy – and to which I have responded to in my own work: Historical/Personal Narrative, Still Life, and Portraiture.
Night in Ivansk:
This series within the Sole of a Shoe exhibition is based on a trip I took to Poland and follows a chronology of snapshots taken by my Canadian-Polish friend, Michal Duma, as I searched for my father and uncle's painting studios and homes. In their visual, narrative bent the works are related to the family album and the graphic novel
